• What is Solar Power?

Put most simply, Solar Power is a way of converting sunlight into a useful energy source, via a small solar panel which ‘collects’ the light and stores it for use. Solar Power works on light, not heat, so it can work effectively even in the British climate! Solar Power can be used for many, many purposes - the compact panels supplied by Solar Solutions Fountains are particularly well-suited to domestic uses such as lighting, fans and, of course, garden water features.

• What’s the benefit of using Solar Power?

There are many! First and foremost, solar power is so simple - when setting up a fountain, all you have to do is connect the panel to the pump, and away you go! There is no need to call in an electrician - otherwise essential, as electricity and water is a dangerous combination. Solar Power is safe for children and pets - no trailing cables, or need for circuit breakers. It also means you can site features in nooks and crannies - no need to worry where your mains supply is. And finally - of course - Solar Power is the ‘green’ option - care for your planet whilst enhancing your garden.

• How much do Solar Powered Fountains cost?

Around £250. That’s for the pump the panel the fountain head, delivery - everything you need to get the fountain or waterfall going...Obviously you get what you pay for and of course there are cheap imitations on the market for half our price but they can be, in our experience, unreliable. Our panels come with a 6 year guarantee. They also have a volume dial on the pump for you to change the flow and a protective filter casing around the pump.

• Does it need sunshine?

Yes, the deluxe fountain needs sunshine, If there’s enough sun to cast a shadow, the fountain will work. The standard fountain panel has a bigger surface area so it sometimes runs even in drizzly weather, but to be honest it’s hard to say whether that is an advantage because most people probably don’t want to be sat beside their pond in the rain! In practice if it’s nice enough to be in the garden, our fountains should be working.

• Does the panel need to be right beside the pond?

No, within reason the panel can be anywhere up to 10 metres/ 30 feet away from the pond. But if you ever need an extension cable for your fountain we can sort that out.

• How big is the panel?

The new deluxe panel is about the size of a sheet of A4 paper and will make a fountain two and a half feet high, or will pump water up to a metre and a half high.

• Is it better than a mains pump?

Yes, it’s much simpler. You don’t need to bury armoured cable. You don’t need timers or circuit breakers and there is no chance of getting electrocuted. You just put the pump in the water; point the panel toward the sun; plug them together - and that’s it!. It’s also very portable, so if you have another water feature the other end of your garden or you move house, the solar fountain is really easy to move.

• Will it be OK in the winter?

Yes, as long as its not freezing. Any pump mains pump or solar pump must be disconnected or taken out of the water if it’s freezing in case the pump freezes and then tries to work. But you can simply disconnect it when the weather is freezing and plug it in when it’s nice, because solar fountains will work just as well on a sunny day in January as they do in the summer...

• When will it work?

The deluxe fountain needs sunshine. If there is enough sun to cast a shadow, it will work. The standard fountain panel has a bigger surface area so it sometimes runs even in drizzly weather.

• How big a fountain can I make?

The new deluxe panel is about the size of a sheet of A4 paper and will make a fountain 2 and a half feet high

• Can I use it to make a waterfall or statue feature work?

Yes, if you take the fountain nozzle off and put the supplied tube on you can pump water up to 2 metres high but we don’t recommend pumping the water more than a metre and a half up. That is about 4 and a half feet up (which is enough for most waterfalls or statues) If you need to pump the water higher, we can always supply the high performance system that pumps up to 3 metres high.

• What is included?

For around £250 for the standard system, we supply, the pump, the panel, the fountain head, delivery - everything you need to get the fountain or waterfall going...We also supply our standard panels with a signed 6 year guarantee.(10 year on the deluxe panels). Our pumps always come with a 3 year guarantee. They also have a volume dial on the pump to change the flow and a filter casing around the pump.

• How long is delivery?

Normally within a few days, to anywhere in the UK but we also deliver to anywhere in Europe or America. US delivery is normally 14 days.

• Is solar power good for a British garden ? Will it work in a British summer?

We design our systems for UK weather so, if there’s enough sun to cast a shadow, the fountain will work. The  panel has a big surface area so it sometimes runs even in drizzly weather, although it’s hard to say whether that is an advantage because most people don’t want to be sat beside their pond in the rain! In practice if it’s nice enough to be in the garden, our fountains should be working. We add a panel big enough to get plenty of power from British sunshine.

• Does the panel need to be right beside the pond?

No, within reason the panel can be anywhere up to 10 metres/ 30 feet away from the pond. But if you ever need an extension cable for your fountain we can sort that out.

• When will it work?

Solar fountains, like plants, need sunshine. If there is enough sun to cast a shadow, it will work. After a while of "running in" they often work in more overcast conditions.

• Can I use it to make a waterfall or statue feature work?

Yes, if you take the fountain nozzle off and put the supplied tube on you can pump water up to 2 metres high. If you need to pump the water higher, we can always supply the high performance system that pumps up to 3 metres high.

Do solar fountains work in the UK?

Do cheap solar powered pumps work just as well?

A website is great! Facebook is great but there is only so much information you can put on a website. So from time to time we also add useful , more in depth, information on our solar powered pumps on our blog page. Have a look if you want to see more information than we can squeeze onto solarsolutionsfountains.com by visiting:

•Is the solar system going to be easy to set up in my pond?

There is a tendency for pump and pond manufacturers to make things sound much more complicated than they actually are. Our system is very straightforward. You connect the pump to the panel and put the pump in the water.

When the pump is in the water you then fit either the supplied tube (running the water through a water feature or waterfall or you fit the spray nozzle and use it to create a fountain.
